On the 12th March you can enjoy in London an evening of music from favourite Greek films of all eras with music by Hiotis, Hadjidakis, Theodorakis, Xarhakos, Plessas to Reboutsika and Karaindrou among others. Find out where..

On the 12th March we are presenting an evening of music from favourite Greek films of all eras with music by Hiotis, Hadjidakis, Theodorakis, Xarhakos, Plessas to Reboutsika and Karaindrou among others. An event that has been a long time in the making, inspired by my masters dissertation on the musical interlude in Greek films of the ‘Golden Age’ of Greek cinema. It’s a hard one to get started as there is so much beautiful music to choose from, we have had a hard time narrowing it down to just one evening! Watch this space….this may turn into a series.

Ever since sound was incorporated into Greek films, music played an important role both as a score underlining the important emotional moments in the films as well as for pure entertainment, featuring the popular singers of the time. In the 50s and 60s Greek music shifted from the taverna into the night club, from an urban underground music to a more popular music reflecting a more affluent society in Greece. The film and music industries became intertwined supporting each other’s sales and popularity similar to Hollywood. As well as bringing Greek Cinema onto an international screen these films and their music have become part of the Greek psyche of young and old. After a period of decline the Greek film industry was revived again bringing some of the beloved contemporary film music composers to the forefront.

We have come together as a group of musicians based in London who are passionate about sharing the music they love. Gorgeous music, highlighting favourite moments from beloved films, that transcends eras and borders and reminds us of times gone by. We want to engage the audience bringing them into the spirit of the films with an interactive component. Let’s see what happens. See you there!
